Road Builder Charities was founded in July 2009 to support training and education for those pursuing transportation construction and engineering related programs at Illinois institutions with emphasis on encouraging more minorities and women to enter the field. These have included college scholarships for degree candidates pursuing engineering, construction and project management; training for minorities entering transportation construction trades; and educational and other support for families of fallen construction workers. Road Builder Charities is a 501(C)3 and donations are tax-deductible to the extend allowed by law.
Academic Scholarships
Road Builder Charities provided academic scholarships for the 2018-19 school year to students studying Construction Management or Engineering at Bradley University, Joliet Junior College, McHenry County College, Northern Illinois University, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Southern Illinois University. Scholarship money is distributed to the colleges and universities, who then go on to select candidates. Highly regarded training programs for "the trades" such as Ace Tech that encourage minorities to join the trades are also included.
Worker Memorial Scholarship
IRTBA also offers a $3,000 'Worker Memorial Scholarship' to a college student whose parent or legal guardian was injured or killed on a jobsite. Eligible parties must be current, full-time college students. Road Builder Charities also provides direct support for families of fallen workers.
