Industry leaders of the Illinois Road and Transportation Builders Association (IRTBA) and members of this year’s Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) participated in the annual D.C. Fly-In this week. Leaders met with Senator Tammy Duckworth and Senator Durbin’s transportation staff to address a variety of topics. Leaders and ELP participants met with Representatives Darren LaHood, Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, Mary Miller, and Nicki Budzinski. IRTBA also met with staffers from Rep. Schakowsky, Foster, Kelly, Quigley, Casten, and Schneider. Topics addressed included promoting federal grant applications currently pending on Illinois Department of Transportation and Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency Program projects, Buy America issues, major projects, labor, environment, industry capacity, and industry’s concern about the current funding levels in the Road Fund and State Construction Account Fund.
